Biopsy
A biopsy is a commonly procedure done to ascertain the malignant (cancerous) or benign (noncancerous) nature of lumps or tumors found through previous diagnostic tests. There are several types of biopsies available and your physician will help you understand the differences of each and perform the most appropriate one for you. During the test, specific cells from the area of concern are removed and are studied in the lab. These tests don’t usually require you to attend a different facility as Advanced Breast Care Specialists perform approximately 70% of breast biopsies in the comfort of our own office.
The most common of our breast biopsy is what’s known as an Ultrasound Guided Vacuum Assisted Core Biopsy and is performed in our office. This procedure is minimally invasive and employs the use of ultrasound machines to facilitate exact needle placement and cell extraction.
In cases where the abnormality is not accessible under ultrasound guidance, a Stereotactic Breast Biopsy is performed with the aid of mammogram compression of the breast in a hospital environment. This is typically the case when calcifications require biopsies but do not appear on ultrasound screening.
At Advanced Breast Care, we are dedicated to providing the most up to date diagnostic and surgical treatment for all types of breast disease, benign and malignant.
